Friday Night Lights Is a New Weekly Light Show on the Hoan

Apr 28, 2024

The shows start Sept. 1 and run through Dec. 29.

After the success of Hoanchella earlier this month, Light the Hoan and UW Credit Union are bringing a new weekly light show to the bridge. Friday Night Lights starts this Friday and will run every Friday through Dec. 29.

“The Hoan Bridge is a source of unity and pride. It’s a way for people to come together and celebrate what matters to them. We love that this bridge is both a literal and figurative connection point, a way to rise above differences and honor the people, places and events that set Milwaukee apart,” says Erika Smith, executive director of Light the Hoan.

Light the Hoan has created colorful light displays for every occasion since the organization formed in 2020. Friday Night Lights will be a weekly light show, with colorful visuals and animated lights, that hopes to build community and connection among Milwaukeeans.

“The city of festivals deserves an iconic landmark like the Hoan Bridge, and they deserve ample opportunities to celebrate the city. ‘Hoanchella’ and ‘Friday Night Lights’ are focused ways to interact with the community and extend the Hoan’s ‘symbol of light’ status well into the future,” Smith says.

UW Credit Union, the sponsor behind Friday Night Lights, will celebrate the first light display this Friday, with its signature red and white theme. The Sept. 15 event will honor Hispanic Heritage Month.

“We’re excited to give residents and visitors a weekly opportunity to enjoy the city in a fun, convenient way,” says Fe Cooper, director of member sales and service at UW Credit Union. “Light the Hoan does a tremendous job of infusing energy and joy into every light show they do. Now every Friday is a special event, a chance to come together and create new traditions.”
